Panthers from Way Downtown

I started this on another one of my blogs covering Young Harris athletics, where I look at where former Young Harris Mountain Lions ended up.  This is the first of potentially many posts in that vein for Georgia State. First, we look at former Panther basketballer Deasia Merrill , who was a TCU Horned Frog for her grad-student year. Between 2020 and 2024, Merrill tallied 1,935 minutes (just over thirty-two hours) in 100 games for GSU, scoring 901 points to go with 556 rebounds and 80 blocks. 

Senior Ayla Johnson has surpassed 100 scoring appearances in duals and has 104 scoring appearances entering this weekend.  Senior Destiny White has surpassed 100 dual-match appearances: with 96 scoring appearances and 8 sixth-flight exhibition appearances she has 104 dual appearances. *Johnson and White have become the third and fourth Panthers this school year to reach 100 appearances in their respective sports after Livy Kowalkowski in volleyball and Mikyla Tolivert in basketball.  Redshirt senior Aliisa Vuorinen has exactly 80 scoring matches in duals.  Sophomore Savannah Ebarb and redshirt junior Aree Keller have each surpassed 50 scoring appearances in dual matches.  Sophomore Michaela Jefferson has surpassed thirty scoring appearances in dual matches. Senior Mikyla Tolivert has 1,342 points in 109 games, which is now tenth in team history (she moves past alumnus Danyiell McKeller, who scored 1,294 points from 2007 through 2010).  *Also, her 180 steals is now ninth-most in team history (ninth previously was held by Leslie McElrath, who tallied 176 from 1997-2001) and her 286 assists is now twelfth.  Sophomore Crystal Henderson has posted 79 steals in 33 games this year, which is the fifth-highest single-season total in team history.
